It is a retail-specialized multinational corporation and one of the largest French hypermarket chains It started 60 years ago in 1959, with its first shop in France.
It was introduced in 1995 to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market by Majid Al Futtaim and managed by Majid Al Futtaim. The first hypermarket was opened in the City Centre of Deira, initially, it was a Continente-branded store before it converted into Carrefour four years later. It is one of the fast-moving hypermarket chains and has been growing in the region, with more than 21,000 employees from more than 68 nationalities in 12 countries.

Majid Al Futtaim holds exclusive rights to the Carrefour franchise in 19 markets across MENA and Central Asia, operating a portfolio of over 50 hypermarkets and over 55 supermarkets in 12 countries.

As of now, Majid Al Futtaim operates over 350 stores in 16 countries, serving more than 750,000 customers daily and employing more than 37,000 people, it offers value-for-money with a range of products, more than 100,000 products which range from groceries, and fresh fruits from around the world, to locally produced items, home appliances, gadgets, electronics, garments, and many more which are everyday needs.
